Pipe Cleaning
Never hit your pipe on a hard object while holding by the mouthpiece.
When removing the remaining ash, grasp the bottom of the bowl, invert and tap gently. This will avoid costly repairs.

Pipe Parts

  1. The Bowl is where the hollow is cut for the tobacco.
  2. The Shank is an extension of the bowl, smoke
is drawn through the shank to the stem.
  3. The Stem is the removable part of the pipe.
  4. The Tenon is the part that fits into the shank.
  5. The Bit is the end that is held between the teeth or lips.
  6. The Pot is where the tobacco is placed.
  7. The Carbon Layer or Cake starts to form after the first few smokes.
  8. The Flue is the channel by which smoke passes from the bowl, through the shank, to the end of the stem.
  9. The Filter or System these can range from metal filters to carbon filters, these are used to regulate the smoke and trap particles of tobacco.

    Pipe Smoking Tips
The secret to a steadily burning tobacco varies with the type of blend. Each type burns and packs differently.
    Rough Cube Cuts: Pack firmly
    Flake Cuts: Pack medium firm
Mixed Cuts: Pack firmly but with a slight spring

Smoke all of the tobacco in the bowl, don’t knock it out. Tamp any remaining tobacco, relight and continue smoking. The reward is a good “cake” formed all the way down into the heel of the bowl. Cake is the carbon that forms inside of your bowl. Proper cake is important. It absorbs moisture, giving you a drier smoke and helps to retain the flavor of the tobacco, resulting in a sweeter smoke.
